Growing Practices

How do we grow food? Are you organic?

Well, that's a very important question.

First, it's not a certified organic farm. Organic certification is expensive.  In order to cover that cost, I would have to make the food more expensive for you, and I don't want to do that.  My goal is to make the farm a place of safety, refuge, life and love. That includes you are the people eating the food, as well as me and my family who are working the land, and the myriad critters that call the place home.

What that means...

YES we use plant based compost and leguminous cover crops as our primary fertility

YES we use cottonseed meal, kelp extract, and natural minerals for supplemental fertility

YES we use exclusion products like row cover to block pests from the crops, and least toxic options like neem oil only when necessary

YES we use biological inoculants like mycorrhizal fungi to promote plant and soil health

YES we rotate crops and plant extensive pollinator habitat, cover crops and practice reduced tillage for soil conservation

Meanwhile.....

NO synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or fertilizers are EVER used

NO genetically modified crops grown

NO raw manure or municipal sewage solids are used

That's why I say we grow Vegetables Good Enough to Eat.

Here are some pictures of how we grow and what the farm looks like.
